TMSG: Third Graders Shave Their Heads to Support Classmate Who Has Alopecia

8-year-old Luke Nelson lost his hair in 2018 due to alopecia. First it was just a small patch of hair from his eyebrow, then as the weeks went on he continued to lose air up until Christmas of 2018 when all of his hair was gone.

Luke’s mom Susan Nelson told People Magazine that when they had to shave little Luke’s hair, his brother Sam wanted to shave his head too. Then it turned into his father also shaving his head making it all a family affair. Shortly after it became an affair with Luke’s classmates at Oklahoma Christian School in Edmond, Oklahoma. 14 third graders came together to lift Luke’s spirits by also shaving their heads at a Sports Clips Haircuts.

Susan shared that they turned it into a fun hair-shaving celebration with donuts and lots of belly laughter.
