Prince George Revealed His Surprising Nickname While Out With Grandma

As third in line to the British throne, Prince George is one of the most recognizable people in the world at just 5-years-old. While his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, do their best to keep Prince George out of the public eye, sometimes it can’t be helped. While out with his maternal grandma, Carol Middleton, and little sister, Princess Charlotte, near her home in Berkshire, the young prince was spotted by a dog walker. After her encounter with the royal children, the woman revealed Prince George doesn’t actually go by George in his private life.

“I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t, but George started stroking my dog,” the woman, who remained anonymous, told The Sun. “Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it. To my astonishment, he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face.”

So, does Prince George really go by Archie? It’s possible! Archie wouldn’t even be the first nickname George has on record, either. According to The Daily Mailhe’s known as PG (short for Prince George) at school. This nickname reportedly caught on and his parents started calling their oldest song PG Tips, which was the shortened to Tips, after the popular tea brand.

Other members of the royal family are known to be fans of using nicknames. For example, Queen Elizabeth is known as ‘Lilibet’ to her close family members, while Prince William used the name ‘Steve’ while in college to fly under the radar.

“I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely,” the woman continued.

Now we’ve got to wonder…do his siblings have secret nicknames, too?
