Pursuit

At around 5:20 a.m. on January 7th, police observed a Pontiac Grand Am driving in the area of Haines Avenue and Lindbergh Avenue with a headlight out. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle continued driving eastbound on Lindbergh Avenue. The pursuit continued until the suspect driver lost control of the vehicle and spun out in the 1400 block of North 7th Street. After the vehicle came to a stop, the female driver and male passenger fled from the vehicle in different directions. Officers pursued the occupants on foot, and both were taken into custody. The driver was identified as 22-year-old Laycie Williams of Williston, ND. Police located a syringe on her person which would field-test positive for methamphetamine. Williams was arrested for Eluding, Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, No Driver’s License, Overdriving Road Conditions, and a Probation Hold. The male was identified as 21-year-old Ransom Whitelance of Rapid City, and he was arrested for Obstruction and a Probation Hold. Both were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
