Meghan Markle Is Reportedly Considering Having A Home Birth

Meghan Markle has certainly shaken things up in the royal family since marrying Prince Harry back in May. She’s taken numerous fashion risks, made feminist speeches on her first official tour, and is moving out of Kensington Palace with her new husband. It’s being reported that Meghan is considering breaking another royal tradition and this would be the most major one of all. According to Vanity FairMeghan is considering a home birth at Windsor. Whoah!

As many royal watchers know, it’s a tradition for members of the royal family to give birth at the Lido Wing in London. When they’re all set to take their new baby home, the Royals first pose for pictures on the front steps, sometimes just hours after giving birth. Prince William and Kate Middleton did this with all three of their children. Prince Harry, along with his older brother, made their debut on those very same steps on their own birthdays.

Despite being royal protocol, it seems that the Duchess of Sussex isn’t really into this idea. The sources who spoke to Vanity Fair suggest her mother, Doria Ragland, believes a home birth is Meghan’s best option. “Doria plans to be around a lot when the baby arrives, and there are plans for her to have a dedicated space at their new home,” the source explained. “She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby. Doria will be involved and if she’s involved she will be encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.”

It’s unlikely the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will confirm their delivery plans ahead of the birth. The Royals usually stay mum until after the baby has been born. Who knows, though, perhaps Meghan will break this royal tradition, as well. The next royal baby is due sometime in the spring of 2019.
