Prince Charles Suggests Names For Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Baby

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get ready to welcome their first child together next spring, royal watchers everywhere have already begun speculating what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will name the next royal baby. Some fans are even taking bets on which moniker will be chosen for the Baby of Sussex, with popular U.K. betting sites Ladbrokes and Betfair putting Victoria, Arthur, Albert, and Diana at the top of the list. Prince Charles, though, revealed that Meghan and Harry have two surprising names on their shortlist.

During a visit to Australia House in London this past Thursday (Nov. 22), the Prince of Wales let it slip that his son and daughter-in-law might pick a much more modern name than people are expecting. “Incidentally ladies and gentlemen my son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australia, he and his wife were offered countless thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby. Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the shortlist,” he said.

Charles went onto say, “But ladies and gentlemen I would not hold your breath for Edna or Les.” in reference to comedian Barry Humphries, who was one of the guests at Australia House and is known for his alter egos on stage and television: Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.

Prince Charles is said to have a close relationship with Meghan, so, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was privy to the shortlist of names under consideration. “The wedding was a real turning point. Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage,” an unnamed royal family member told Vanity Fair. “The bond between them is very close.”

Prince Charles’s opinion probably means a great deal to these parents-to-be and it seems like he approves of their royal-tradition-breaking name preferences. We’ll just have to wait and see if there’s a Prince Shane or Princess Kylie running around Buckingham Palace one day.
