Stolen Vehicle

At around 6:10 p.m. on November 18th, police were dispatched to the 700 block of Main Street for a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen. Police made contact with the owner of the vehicle and learned there were tracking the location of the vehicle based on the GPS location of a phone left in the vehicle. Police were able to share real-time updates of the vehicle’s location over the radio. Police located the Honda Pilot driving eastbound on I-90 near exit 61. As police got behind the vehicle in order to attempt a traffic stop, the vehicle slowed to a stop on the shoulder of the interstate. As police activated their lights in order to conduct a traffic stop on the Pilot, it accelerated and reentered the driving lane. As the vehicle approached mile marker 63, it began to lose control. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a road sign, which caused it to begin rolling. A medical unit was called to the location. The female driver was safely pulled from the vehicle. She was identified as 29-year-old Vedonize Begaye. She was transported to the hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Police would eventually determine that she was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. She was ultimately placed under arrest for Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Eluding, DUI, and Driving Under Revocation.
