Kenny Chesney Marks One-Year Anniversary of Hurricanes Irma & Marie

Kenny Chesney is remembering the anniversary of a tragedy.

The country superstar took to social media today (9/6) to mark the one-year anniversary of the Category 5 hurricane that ravaged its way across his beloved Virgin Islands. “One year…. This is the room everyone rode out the storm in… #hurricaneirma #hurricanemaria #loveforlovecity,” he captioned a photo of a small room inside his St. John home.

The “Better Boat” singer was in Nashville when Hurricane Irma hit the the Caribbean last September, but he invited 17 close friends and five of their dogs to take refuge in that room. “I didn’t have a lot of communication with anyone that I cared about for several days,” Kenny recently told People magazine. “To live in that moment, not knowing if everything was okay and everybody was alive, was really hard.” In the aftermath of the storms, Kenny created the Love for Love City foundation to funnel relief to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.

The proceeds from his latest album, Songs for the Saints, benefits the Love for Love City fund.
