Tim McGraw Writes Original Song For New Documentary

Tim McGraw is lending his voice to a new project. The country megastar co-wrote and recorded a new song called “Gravity” for National Geographic Documentary Films’ highly anticipated Free Solo, a documentary detailing the story of free soloist climber Alex Honnold as he prepares to climb the face of the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without a rope.

Tim, who co-wrote “Gravity” with Lori McKenna, wanted the song to capture true fearlessness. “There are few people who pursue their passion with the fearlessness of Alex Honnold,” Tim says in a press release. “It’s both terrifying and exhilarating to be on that journey with him when you watch Free Solo. Lori McKenna and I wanted the lyrics of ‘Gravity’ to be a reminder that fear is a battle fought on a variety of planes, from mental to spiritual to physical. We tend to think ‘fearlessness’ is synonymous with big bold gestures, but there’s also a fragility inherent in risk — and we wanted that to come through. In the studio, Byron Gallimore and I wanted a track that sonically resonated with Marco Beltrami’s score and felt as big as El Capitan.”

Free Solo marks Tim’s first involvement with any big screen projects since the actor starred in 2017’s The Shack. He previously starred in Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side and Country Strong—just to name a few. Look for “Gravity” when Free Solo hits theaters nationwide on September 28.

Tim will release the song to digital service providers later this year.
