Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Named Their Dog

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had quite the summer. Between vacationing with the Clooney’s in Italy to seeing a special performance of Hamilton on the West End, the newlyweds have been busy. At some point, though, they managed to bring a new member into their family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex adopted a Labrador Retriever at the end of August. Unfortunately, they didn’t name the latest royal addition The Pup of Sussex, but they did, indeed, pick a name for their dog. It’s Oz!

While it’s not clear where the inspiration behind the name came from, People speculates that it could be a nod to their first upcoming royal tour to Australia, New Zealand, and the Kingdom of Tonga. Another theory is that the name has literary origins in the famed 1818 poem by Percy Shelley “Ozymandias.” Another idea is, perhaps, they’re just big fans of the classic film the Wizard of Oz. They haven’t commented on their new pup yet, though, so perhaps will here more about Oz in the future.

Oz is the second pup to join Meghan and Harry’s new family. Meghan, a known dog lover, had two dogs back in Toronto before relocating to London. A beagle named Guy came with her, however, the other, Bogart, was gifted to friends, according to People. Oz will also be cousin to Lupo, Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s royal pup. The more dogs, the merrier.

This isn’t Harry and Meghan’s dog, but it’s still  a super cute photograph. Enjoy!
