Scotty McCreery has lived a pretty exciting life thus far, but if you ask him this year has everything else beat.
While talking to PEOPLE, the American Idol winner says 2018 is “the favorite year I’ve lived yet … and I’ve had some fun years,” before acknowledging his age, “for just being 24.”
Aside from his career taking off, Scotty also married his longtime girlfriend, Gabi, this June. “I think we were definitely made for each other,” he gushes. “It’s just a great match.”
Fans were able to get a glimpse into the big day via the country star’s “This Is It” video, which features clips from their wedding.
“I just couldn’t wrap my head around actors or somebody portraying that song,” he admits. “For the emotion to be captured, I knew it had to be the wedding.” He also sang the song, which was written as an engagement gift to Gabi, during the reception. “At the last chorus, when I said, ‘if ever there was a time for a perfect kiss,’ I leaned in and gave her a big, old, fat one, and it was good. … Couldn’t ask for a better day.”
Now, two months into married life, the couple is having a blast merging households. “I love the fact that we didn’t live together before,” Scotty says. “It’s not like we just got married and then went back to our home. I’ve enjoyed the process of moving her stuff and getting my stuff and making a house a home, and it’s very homey right now, which to me is awesome.”
Though the lovebirds have been together for seven years, things change when you move in together. Luckily, it’s all working out..for the most part. “I’ve folded laundry. She’s folded laundry. I’ve done the dishes. She’s done the dishes. Nobody has a role. If we see something that needs to be done, we just do it,” he explains; however, the TV preferences are another story. She likes things on the mushier side. “[She likes] The Disney Channel, The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise,” Scotty groans. “Bachelor in Paradise … That’s horrendous, horrendous television. Terrible.”
But if differing TV tastes are the biggest problem in your marriage, you have a good thing going. The young star will continue living in marital bliss before heading out on his Season Change Tour this winter. When Gabi has the house to herself, she can watch all the “horrendous” television she wants.
