TMSG: Starbucks To Pay Some Employees To Volunteer 20 Hours A Week

The popular coffee shop chain Starbucks is testing out a new program that would allow some of its employees’ opportunities to volunteer.

Through a new partnership with nonprofit volunteering group Points of Light, Starbucks selected 36 individuals within the company that will volunteer their time in the 13 cities they are based. The initial volunteering will last for six months, having these employees spend 20 hours a week at Starbucks and 20 hours a week volunteering. They will be getting paid all 40 hours of their worked time.

Starbucks says this allows their employees to feel connected and engaged in their communities, which in turn makes them more likely to stay at Starbucks longer. This will also create a positive image for Starbucks in the communities. If things go well, the program may continue and grow in 2019.
