The Nelson fire started to bear down in Solano County in California. Police officers from the Vacaville Police Department noticed smoke off in the distance by the nearby SPCA of Solano County, housing dozens of homeless animals.
The officers jumped into action and started to help corraling animals. Video captured from the police officers body cameras shows officers running into the building and grabbing dog after dog, stuffing them into trucks, cars and even the front seat of their patrol vehicles.
Thanks to these police officers, all 60 of the animals at the shelter were saved and placed in foster homes for the time being. The shelter says they are at work to clean up ash and debris that fell around the kennels and the property.
Even more “tell me something good” news, one of the officers involved in their rescue, Carly Stone went on to adopt one of the dogs rescued from the fire.
