Ambien Responds To Roseanne’s Tweet Blame: ‘Racism Is Not A Side Effect’

As many of us know by now, Roseanne Barr had a very busy week on social media. She tweeted a racist comment about Former President Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett and her “Roseanne” sitcom got canceled by ABC as a result.

Barr called Jarrett a combination of “Muslim Brotherhood” and “Planet of the Apes.” Acting swiftly, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

Barr was also dropped as a client by ICM Partners. “What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency,” the talent agency said. “Consequently, we have notified her that we will not represent her. Effective immediately, Roseanne Barr is no longer a client.”

After all of the downfall, Barr blamed sleeping aid Ambien on her terrible tweet. The comedian went back on Twitter and said, “Guys I did something unforgivable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting.” She added that she’s “done weird stuff while on ambien-cracked eggs on the wall at 2am etc.”

After seeing Barr’s tweets blaming the drug for her controversial messages, Ambien responded. Ashleigh Koss, a spokeswoman for the North America region of Sanofi, which makes Ambien, issued a statement saying that the company’s sleeping aid was not what caused Barr to act in such a way on social media.

“While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication,” Koss said. Sanofi’s Twitter account also issued a statement. “People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world,” the tweet said. “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.” See that below.
