DUI

On May 21 at around 3:30 p.m., police responded to 3851 Eglin Street for a report of an unconscious individual in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle. Police located the vehicle idling near one of the business’s gas pumps. Witnesses stated the unconscious driver had been there for over an hour. Police found that the doors to the vehicle were locked and attempted to knock on the windows in order to wake the driver. The driver eventually woke up and opened the door. Police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver could not stand without assistance. She was walked back to the officer’s patrol car and identified as 33-year-old Katherine Thompson of Rapid City. Upon further investigation, police located an open alcohol container in the vehicle. Thompson was placed under arrest for DUI and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
