Aggravated Assault/DUI

On May 11th around 9:50 p.m., police were called to 600 Lindbergh Avenue for a report of a disturbance. The reporting party indicated that two individuals were arguing loudly. One of the individuals was observed getting into a vehicle. According to witnesses, that vehicle nearly struck a bystander before colliding with a nearby parked vehicle. The suspect vehicle then left the area. Police located the suspect vehicle, which had sustained extensive damage its front-end, driving northbound on N. 5th Street. Police stopped the vehicle in the area of N. 5th Street and North Street. Police made contact with the driver, identified as 26-year-old Rachel Hartsell of Rapid City, and immediately noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. A DUI investigation revealed that she was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. She was placed under arrest for DUI, Aggravated Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and a Headlight Violation.
