Bonnie Raitt Cancels Tour Dates Citing Health Issues

Country and rock legend Bonnie Raitt has pulled the plug on at least the first half of her tour this spring with James Taylor due to a medical situation, according to a statement on her website.

Raitt hasn’t revealed what the health issue is, but her statement reports that the problem was discovered during her annual physical. The statement added that Raitt’s doctors expect she will make a “full recovery.”

“I’m deeply sorry to have to disappoint my fans, James and colleagues with these cancellations,” Raitt said. “I was so looking forward to our tour, but I’m very grateful that the doctors feel this can be taken care of with surgery. I’m feeling strong and am in great hands with my wonderful team. I fully expect to return for the second leg of the U.S. tour in June followed by our European tour in July.”

The tour was supposed to begin May 8 in Jacksonville, Florida. Raitt has canceled through June 6. According to her site, Raitt is expecting to return to the road for the second leg of the tour, beginning June 22 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Fans have been wishing Raitt well on social media and sending her positive messages. At the conclusion of her statement, Raitt thanked her fans for their “concern and understanding,” and asked for privacy and “space to heal.”

If Raitt rejoins Taylor on the road when she hopes, she’ll be on the road from late June to early August, touring the U.S. and Europe.
