Charlie Lagarde turned 18 years old on March 14th. She was excited to see what her new freedoms as an adult were all about by buying a bottle of champagne and her very first lottery ticket.
Not only did the ticket end up being significant because it was her first ever, but it was also a winning ticket for the $1 million jackpot.
Lagarde opted to take $1,000 per week for the rest of her life rather than the $780,000 lump sum after taxes. This equals out to be about $100K a year.
“It’s without taxes so it’s equivalent to a salary of more than $100,000 a year, so it’s a great start in life for that young lady,” a spokesman for the lottery corporation told the Canadian Press. “That was her first lottery ticket ever and she fell upon a winning ticket.”
Congrats to this young woman, that’s a great start to her adult life!
