Rollover crash

On March 18th at around 9:10 p.m., police responded to Haines avenue under the Interstate-90 Bridge for a report of a two-vehicle crash. On arrival, police located a Toyota Camry with extensive damage to its front end and a Ford F150 which had rolled onto its side. The driver of the Camry, identified as 27-year-old Elijah Whitehorse of Rapid City, was located on the ground just outside the driver’s side door. The driver of the pickup was trapped in the vehicle and required extrication from responding fire-rescue units. Both drivers were transported from the scene via ambulance for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. During the investigation into the crash, police noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from Whitehorse’s person. After speaking with witnesses, police determined the Ford Pickup was southbound on Haines Avenue and making a left turn to head east up the I-90 onramp at the intersection. Witnesses stated that the Camry was northbound on Haines at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light at the intersection and struck the passenger side of the pickup, causing it to roll. Whitehorse was arrested for DUI (3rd Offense), Reckless Driving, Driving Under Revocation, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, and No Proof of Insurance.
