Sammy Hodgett’s dream came true.
The 8-year-old cancer survivor met Blake Shelton at the country singer’s recent concert in Moline, Illinois, after Blake himself sent a personal invitation to Sammy and his family.

Mike Hodgett, Sammy’s father, thanked Blake for his hospitality and generosity in an open letter to CMT.com.
“It is difficult to find the words to express how thankful we are for everything that you have done,” he writes. “Sammy has been smiling non-stop ever since the concert last weekend. Every morning he asks if we get to go see Blake again today.”
Mike added the concert provided “much-needed, relaxing family time” away from “doctor appointments, hospital stays and chemotherapy sessions.”
“Blake, you have given Sammy such a wonderful experience and gift that we know he will remember forever. I am indebted to you, sir. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” he writes in the letter’s closing.
Sammy was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 5 and fell into a nearly six-week medically-induced coma following a reaction to his chemotherapy treatment.
When he awoke, Blake’s 2013 hit “Boys ‘Round Here” helped him get through recovery.
