Peter Rabbit Film Criticized For Depicting ‘Allergy Bullying’

The latest kids movie hitting theaters recently is Peter Rabbit featuring James Corden, Margot Robbie and Daisy Ridley. A trailer of the new movie in theaters now is below.

This new film is facing a boycott from Australian group Global Anaphylaxis Awareness and Inclusivity (Globalaii). The group has created a petition asking distributor Sony Pictures to apologize for quote “mocks the seriousness of allergic disease and is heartbreakingly disrespectful to the families of those that have lost loved ones to anaphylaxis.”

Groups like Kids with Food Allergies Foundation and Food Allergy Research & Education have issued warnings via social media that “allergy jokes are harmful to our community.”

Sony Pictures said on Sunday in a statement the film “should not have made light” of a character being allergic to blackberries “even in a cartoonish” way. The studio and filmmakers said they regretted not being more aware and sensitive to the issue.
