Law enforcement ask for help identifying man killed in apparent vehicle-pedestrian accident

At 3:22 am, February 8, 2018, law enforcement responded to a report of a person lying in the median on Highway 14-16 near Gumbo Drive in Box Elder.

Law officers found a deceased male. An autopsy has been completed. Preliminary findings suggest his death is consistent with multiple blunt force trauma. We are investigating the incident as a vehicle-pedestrian accident. Investigators are tracking down leads on the vehicle and possible driver involved in the incident.

Investigators are still working to identify the victim and are asking the public for help. He is described as a male in his late teens or early 20s, 5’9”, 160 pounds with dark hair, and possibly of Native American descent. He was wearing many layers of dark clothing and a blue backpack. Several agencies are involved in the investigation including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Box Elder Police Department, Rapid City Police Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
