Robbery

On October 13th around 7:10 p.m., police were dispatched to 1125 N. Lacrosse Street for a report of a robbery. On arrival, police located two individuals pinning a male subject to the ground. Police handcuffed the male subject, and identified him as 19-year-old Courtland Blaylock of Rapid City. After speaking to witnesses, police determined that Blaylock and a second male suspect (later identified as 27-year-old Vincent Simmons of Rapid City) had approached the checkout counter when Simmons reached to grab cash out of the register. A struggle ensued between Simmons and the cashier, and Blaylock shoved another employee who had come over to assist. Ultimately, two patrons were able to bring Blaylock to the ground. Vincent fled the area on foot. Blaylock was placed under arrest for Second Degree Robbery. Later in the evening, police made contact with Simmons at 212 East Boulevard North. He originally gave police a false name, but would later be positively identified. A search warrant for his motel room turned up clothing matching that of the second robbery suspect’s. Simmons was ultimately placed under arrest for Second Degree Robbery, and Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement.
