Weapons Call

On September 29th around 3:44 a.m., police responded to 100 Surfwood Drive for a report of a male that had just pulled a gun on someone. The male was also seen carrying an open container of alcohol. On arrival, the suspect was spotted by officers and officers gave chase on foot. After a short pursuit, police detained the suspect at gunpoint. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Asa Woodenknife of Rapid City, was commanded to the ground and placed in handcuffs. A search of Woodenknife turned up property belonging to two of our robbery victims from the incidents noted above. Also found on Woodenknife was drug paraphernalia field-testing positive for methamphetamine. A pistol was located several feet from where Woodenknife was apprehended, and an open container of alcohol was also located nearby. Woodenknife was placed under arrest for Obstruction, Commission of a Felony with a Firearm, 1st Degree Robbery, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Open Container in Public.

The RCPD believes we have all suspects accounted for and there is no ongoing threat to public safety related to these robberies. These incidents are still being actively investigated, and there is some more work to be done before these cases are closed.
