Short Pursuit

On August 9th around 11:55 p.m., an officer was travelling eastbound on Omaha Street approaching the intersection with Maple Avenue. A vehicle travelling the opposite direction turned to head south on Maple Avenue. The vehicle turned immediately in front of the officer, causing the officer to hit the brakes and swerve to avoid a collision. As the officer turned to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, the car increased it speed southbound on Maple. The vehicle then attempted to turn westbound along the railroad tracks. Due to the lack of control and high rate of speed, the front driver’s side wheel caught the railroad tracks and broke the front axle. The vehicle was disabled and came to a stop. The driver, identified as 47-year-old Brian Fisher of Rapid City, was ordered out of the vehicle. Fisher was placed under arrest for Eluding, No Proof of Insurance, No Driver’s License, and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle.
