Pursuit

At around 5:00 a.m. on February 26th, police were dispatched to a report of a fight at 1570 N. Lacrosse Street. While investigating the incident, police observed a female subject running through the parking lot. Believing she may have been involved in the fight, police ordered her to stop. She instead jumped into the passenger seat of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Despite more police commands to stop, the driver of the truck backed out of its parking spot and proceeded to drive out of the parking lot onto Eglin Street. A traffic stop on the vehicle was attempted, but the vehicle continued to proceed eastbound on Eglin Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then turned southbound on N. Turbine Drive, and it was apparent the driver was having a tough time maintaining traction on the snowy road. The pickup drove into a small construction area near the dead end of N. Turbine Drive and collided with a trailer in the construction area. Police observed the male driver bail from the vehicle and begin running to the south. Meanwhile, the vehicle (with two occupants still inside) began rolling backwards. The driver had left the vehicle in reverse before fleeing. The pickup rolled backwards into a stop sign, and police were able to put the vehicle back into park. The two occupants were detained. In the meantime, police engaged in a short foot pursuit with the fleeing driver. The driver crossed a live electric fence, shocking himself in the process. The driver was detained shortly after, and identified as 19-year-old Ramone McBride of Kyle. Officers noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from McBride’s person. A search of the pickup turned up drug paraphernalia. McBride was placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, DUI, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, Minor Consuming, and a Warrant. The female occupant is identified as 18-year-old Shanteddy Twoeagle of Porcupine. She was placed under arrest for Minor Consuming.
