Pursuit

On February 20th around 3:30 a.m., police responded to the 2700 block of Belgarde Boulevard for a report of vehicle burglaries in the area. The reporting party informed police that the suspect had departed the area in a Dodge Durango. Police located the suspect vehicle headed eastbound on Catron Boulevard and a traffic stop on the Durango was initiated. The vehicle did not stop and turned southbound onto Highway 16A, then west on Moon Meadows Drive, north onto Dunsmore Road, east onto Sheridan Lake Road, and east again onto Catron Boulevard. The pursuing officer employed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention maneuver (a TVI is a pursuit-ending tactic using a patrol vehicle to nudge the rear of the suspect vehicle in order to cause the suspect vehicle to spin in a controlled matter) and the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver was ordered out the vehicle and handcuffed without further incident. Property located in the vehicle was identified as being stolen. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Todd Trejo of Rapid City and placed under arrest for Eluding, Receiving Stolen Property, and Driving Under Suspension. Police continue to investigate the incident.
