Disney Nearing Record $7 Billion Box Office for 2016

Lucasfilm/Disney(NEW YORK) — Walt Disney Studios is poised to become the first studio in history to reach the $7 billion mark in worldwide box office earnings in a single year.

Helped by a $290 million global debut for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney’s year-to-date grosses sit at $6,988.3 million from January 1 through December 18, including an industry-record $2,700.4 million domestically and $4,287.9 million internationally, a Disney record.

Disney’s film outlets include Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm, and the company’s bottom line was boosted by the successes of offerings from each of those, including Finding Dory, the live action version of The Jungle Book, Moana, Doctor Strange, and Captain America: Civil War, in addition to the latest Star Wars film.
