“Passengers” Star Jennifer Lawrence Explains Who She Couldn't Leave Behind

ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — The chemistry between both Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in their new movie Passengers is already getting attention, but it might be surprising to hear that the Oscar winner didn’t think she’d be a good fit.

“I love sci-fi. I love watching sci-fi, but it was a genre I just didn’t see for myself,” Lawrence admitted to Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan. “Then once I read it, it was just unbelievable.”

In the space epic, Lawrence and her co-star leave Earth behind to journey 120 years into the future for life on a new planet — except the pair wake up 90 years too soon, and the mission appears to be doomed.

Lawrence said she can’t imagine leaving her life and loved ones behind as her character does. “I mean, as things are right now, I can’t see, like, just saying goodbye to everyone I know and love and just ‘peacing out,'” she said with a laugh. “I think the journey sounds amazing. If I could bring people, maybe I would.”

Lawrence explained that it would actually be her dog, Pippi Lawrence-stocking, that she would not leave behind.

“She’s not a person,” Lawrence said, “but I couldn’t leave without Pippi.”

Passengers opens nationwide Friday.
