(LONDON) — The ability to destroy a planet may be insignificant compared to the power of the Force, Darth Vader once said, but the ability to do so would cost you a pretty penny — well, specifically, just under $1.5 octillion.
UK Telegraph crunched a whole bunch of numbers estimating what it would cost to make your own version of the planet smashing battle station central to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — if it were possible to do so.
Paying your staff — some 1.2 million souls, according to Star Wars canon, consisting of a crew of 265,000, 52,000 gunners, 607,000 troops, 31,000 Stormtroopers, 42,000 ship support staff, and 180,000 pilots and support crew — would run you $60 million alone.
You’d also need 852 quadrillion dollars’ worth of steel, and lots of juice to keep the lights on, and power your superlaser — OVO Energy recently pinned that at, “30 trillion times all the money on earth,” to run for a single day.
All told, building — plus shipping — would run you just under $1.5 octillion.
Rogue One, which stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, and Donnie Yen, opens December 16 from Lucasfilm, which like ABC News, is owned by Disney.
