(LOS ANGELES) — Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer to Dunkirk, the Christopher Nolan-directed World War II drama that stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, and Harry Styles of One Direction fame.
The film centers on the massive military evacuation of British soldiers from the French city of Dunkirk in 1940, after the Nazis occupied France. More than 300 thousand soldiers escaped, but the going was bloody, and the soldiers were at the mercy of relentless German shelling and strafing runs.
Dunkirk hits theaters on July 21.
