Hailee Steinfeld on Golden Globe-Nominated “The Edge of Seventeen”: “It's a True Coming of Age Story”

Image Group LA/ABC(LOS ANGELES) — It’s only Tuesday, but Hailee Steinfeld‘s having a pretty great week. On Sunday, she turned 20 — two days after announcing on stage that her hit “Starving” had gone platinum — and on Monday, she scored a Golden Globe nomination for her latest movie, The Edge of Seventeen.

Hailee, who was Oscar-nominated at age 14 for True Grit, was super-stoked about this latest nod, especially because now people can see the movie.  Edge of Seventeen premiered at a film festival in September, but just recently opened nationwide.

“The movie is finally out, which I’m very excited about, it’s so crazy, it’s been a long time coming,” she tells ABC Radio. “But this movie is a true coming-of-age story about what being a teenager really feels like today.”

Considering that Hailee is also a singer, it’s interesting that the movie takes its title from a 1981 hit by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks, which is commonly referred to as “Just Like the White Winged Dove.”  So, is Hailee a fan of that song?

“Yeah, I am which is so cool that they ended up titling the movie that,” laughs Hailee. “It was a few other things before they settled down with that, and I couldn’t be happier that they did!”

Last night, Hailee appeared on Lifetime, hosting Billboard’s Women in Music special, which was taped Friday in New York City.
