“La La Land,” “Moonlight,” “Arrival” Top 2016 Critics' Choice Awards Film Nominations

Photo by David Bornfriend, courtesy of A24(LOS ANGELES) — The nominations in the movie categories have been announced for the 22nd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, and the musical La La Land leads this year with 12.

Along with scoring a Best Picture nod, La La Land earned nominations for the movie’s stars, Ryan Goslingand Emma Stone.

The indie smash hit Moonlight and the Amy Adams sci-fi film Arrival followed in second place with 10 nominations each.

Mel Gibson, in full comeback mode, scored a Best Director nomination for his war film Hacksaw Ridge, which also earned a nod for Best Action Movie and a nod in the lead actor category for Andrew Garfield, as well as a host of technical honors. 

FX’s hit The People v. O.J. Simpson leads the TV nominations, which were previously announced. HBO was the network that received the most nods with 22, including five for Game of Thrones.

The Critics’ Choice Awards, honoring the best in TV and film, airs Sunday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. ET on A&E. Silicon Valley and Deadpool star T.J. Miller is set to host.
