ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — Star and producer Tom Cruise took to Twitter Thursday morning to give fans their first peek of The Mummy, his reboot of the classic monster movie series.
In a teaser to the full trailer — which will hit the Interwebs Sunday — both Cruise and co-star Russell Crowe are shown, as is Sofia Boutella, who played Jaylah in Star Trek Beyond, and in this film plays the fearsome titular unearthed villain.
“I saw her!” Cruise says of Ahmahnet. “She is real!”
“Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters,” a title card reads, hinting at Universal’s hopes for a Marvel-like “shared universe” for some of the studio’s oldest properties; indeed, Crowe plays Dr. Henry Jekyll, he of “Jekyll and Hyde” fame.
The Mummy hits theaters June 9, 2017.
