On November 12th around 1:05 a.m., police observed a passenger car in the area of Mt. Rushmore Road and Omaha Street with a non-functional brake light. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle came to a stop in the LTA parking lot. Police made contact with the driver and noted the strong smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, 38-year-old Leni May Sr. of Rapid City, was detained as police searched the vehicle. A search of his person turned up several needles that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Leni was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance and No Proof of Insurance before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
