20 Years Later: “Trainspotting 2” Trailer Is Addicting

Sony Pictures(LONDON) — In 1996, an unknown director named Danny Boyle shot a film about a group of heroin-addicted buddies with a group of unknown actors including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremmer, Kevin McKidd, and Robert Carlyle.

The movie became a cult classic, and launched the careers of all involved.

Fast forward 20 years, and Boyle has an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, and his cast has gone on to star in huge projects like the Star Wars prequels (McGregor), Black Hawk Down (Bremmer), Pixar’s Brave (Kelly Macdonald), and the successful TV shows Grey’s Anatomy (McKidd), Elementary (Miller), and Once Upon a Time (Caryle).

Also 20 years later, Boyle and company shot a sequel that follows up with where McGregor’s Renton, Bremmer’s Spud, Carlyle’s Begbie, Miller’s Sick Boy, and the other original characters.

The full trailer — containing some NSFW scenes, be warned — features a modern retake on the original’s “Choose Life” voiceover by McGregor, which was a sarcastic take on modern culture. It’s been updated this time around, but no less sardonic, with nuggets like, “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…and hope that someone, somewhere cares.”

The movie opens February 3 in the States.
