(LOS ANGELES) — Thanks to the billion dollar blockbusters Zootopia, Finding Dory and Captain America: Civil War, Walt Disney Studios has enjoyed its biggest year ever — and with the expected hits Doctor Strange, Moanaand Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on the horizon, its expected the company will shatter another Hollywood record by year’s end.
According to a press release, the first three films mentioned all crossed the billion dollar mark globally, and Disney’s Jungle Book retelling got close, with more than $966 million in ticket sales. What’s more, although Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened in December of 2015, it made more than $760 million in 2016.
For the second year in a row, offerings from Walt Disney Studios companies Disney, Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm generated $5.85 billion through November 1, besting the studios’ previous calendar-year record of $5.84 billion.
