“Adventure Time” Star's “Bittersweet” Goodbye

© 2016 – Cartoon Network(NEW YORK) — You likely won’t recognize John DiMaggio in the street, but most consumers of pop culture have heard his voice. In addition to myriad commercials, DiMaggio voiced the obscene robot Bender in Futurama, and he showed off another side voicing Jake the Dog, the shape-shifting pug from Adventure Time with Finn and Jake.

Fans of the brilliantly absurd, Emmy-winning animated show were saddened by the recent news that the show would be coming to an end in 2018, — eight years after the cartoon about an adventuresome, awesome pre-teen and his stretchy-legged pooch pal first hit the airwaves on Cartoon Network.

ABC Radio caught up with DiMaggio Friday at New York Comic Con for his take. “There’ll be plenty of other episodes, and they’ll wrap it up — and there’s a movie int he works, and that’s great, you know,” his famous voice getting emotional. “And it’s exciting, and it’s bittersweet, you know, something like this ending — that’s what happens in show business.  You get involved in a project that’s really fantastic and you end up — it always ends! It always ends, and you gotta be prepared for that.”

The series earned awards, critical praise, and fans of all ages. “That’s the beauty of the show, I think, It had …or it has…something for everybody: to be able to sit down with the kids, with the college age kids, the adults, with the older folks — everybody likes this.”
