Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — The public war of words continues between Jim Carrey and Mark Burton, the husband of Carrey’s late girlfriend, Cathriona White.  Burton now claims Carrey gave White a sexually transmitted disease.

To recap: Burton, who lives in Portland, OR, filed suit against Carrey Monday in Los Angeles, claiming the actor illegally obtained and provided the drugs, including Ambien and oxycodone, that White used to commit suicide late last year at age 30.  Burton’s lawsuit seeks various damages, plus funeral and burial expenses.

Carrey immediately denied the allegations, with his attorney, Martin Singer, calling them “an outlandish shakedown” attempt.

Then Thursday, Burton amended his suit to claim Carrey, 54, gave White an STD before he allegedly left her.  Singer “categorically disputed” the charge in a statement Thursday, calling it a “desperate, bogus claim,” and in turn calling Burton’s marriage to White an “illegal sham” that was arranged  “to evade immigration laws” so White, who was born in Ireland, could stay in the U.S.  Singer also claims White asked Carrey to marry her, for that reason.

“My client will not pay money to end this opportunist’s transparent shakedown lawsuit, and this malicious case will be dismissed,” Singer’s statement ends. “Mr. Carrey has suffered a great deal in the last year with the suicide of the woman he dearly loved, and it is outrageous that he should be subjected to this predatory lawsuit.”

In a brief statement Friday morning, Burton responded, “Mr. Carrey and his handlers need to stop with the lies and deception – enough is enough,” and claimed to have evidence supporting his allegations in the form of text messages and a hand-written letter from White.  Stay tuned.
