When it was first announced, Harry was described as a variety show, but the singer says it’s not the kind of variety show that used to rule the airwaves in the ’70s. “It’s variety in the sense that there’s gonna be a variety of elements to the show,” he tells ABC Radio. “It’s not variety like Carol Burnett was variety, where there’s sketch comedy.”
“My show is going to be very spontaneous,” he explains. “We’re not really going to know where it’s going. We’re going to have a lot of music, a lot of comedy. If somebody comes on as a guest and I’m talking to them about something, and then they decide they want to sing, we don’t have to rehearse that — it’s me and a bunch of musicians!”
Harry says he’s going to love doing the show because, “It sort of combines everything that I love to do.”
“I love to perform, I love to entertain, I love to play music, play piano, sing; and I love to talk to people and have a good time, and it’s all of those things under one roof.”
Harry is syndicated, so check local listings. USA Today reports that the first week’s guests will include Sandra Bullock, Renée Zellweger and Terrence Howard. There’s also a segment called “Hey, Harry,” lots of banter between the host and the audience, human-interest stories and spur-of-the-moment musical interludes.
Harry tells USA Today,” “I think of it as a party, and it just happens to be coming on in the middle of the day.”
