Whoopi Goldberg Discusses Who She'd Like to Direct in Emmett Till Movie

ABC/Yolanda Perez(NEW YORK) — This may or may not be Whoopi Goldberg’s last season on The View, but either way she has plans for after this season.

She will direct a movie titled Till about Emmett Till, the black teen who was murdered in 1955 after allegedly whistling at a white woman.

Goldberg wants an unknown young actor to play the lead role.

“I want Markees Christmas for this because he’s closest to the age of Emmett Till at the time and he’s a big kid, so he looks a lot like Emmett,” she says.

Christmas is 17 and best known for starring alongside Craig Robinson in the acclaimed indie film Morris from America.

The project will mark Goldberg’s feature film directorial debut.
