Paramount Pictures has halted preproduction of M:I6 Mission: Impossible, Deadline reports, affecting early work on the design of visual effects for the sequel in London.

There are a couple of rumors regarding the reason why the decision was made. Deadline notes that Cruise may want the studio to at least match what he’s making for Universal’s upcoming reboot of The Mummy franchise.

The other possible reason, the website states, is that Paramount wants Cruise and other producers to reduce their fees.

Whatever the case may be, Deadline speculates that the issue isn’t a serious one in the short term, since the script is not finished, production is not scheduled to begin until January, and Cruise is currently working on The Mummy.

M:I6 Mission: Impossible does not yet have a release date.
