“Bachelor in Paradise”: Evan Strikes Out with Amanda and Bickers with Josh

ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) — Evan Bass’ roller-coaster ride on Bachelor in Paradise took more twists and turns on Monday night.

Fresh off his rejection by Carly Waddell last week, he created his own date card for Amanda Stanton. There was only one problem: She was already involved with Josh Murray. In fact, she was making out with Josh when Evan decided it would be the perfect time to give her the card.

Evan pulled Amanda away from Josh and confessed to her that he’d joined the show because of her. When he asked her if there was any possibility of something happening between the two of them, she let him down gently.

“I wish you would have said something earlier,” she said, explaining that she wanted to focus on her relationship with Josh.

It didn’t end there, though. Before the rose ceremony, Evan told Amanda to be cautious around Josh, suggesting he is verbally abusive, based on what was written about Josh by his ex-fiancé, former “Bachelorette” Andi Dorfman, in her book.

Needless to say, Josh was not pleased. In a tense exchange, Josh told Evan not to judge him.

“You’re so polished,” Evan argued. “You know all the right things to say.”

Josh called out Evan for not coming directly to him with his concerns, and claimed that Andi’s book is a “fictional” story.

Meanwhile, Nick Viall, of all people, came to Josh’s defense — kind of — while chatting with Amanda. He said he too is mentioned in Andi’s book, and implied that there are some inaccuracies about him in it. He advised Amanda to just be on alert around Josh.

Despite the warnings, Amanda still gave Josh a rose at the rose ceremony.

As for Evan, Carly helped him out by presenting him with what she called a “platonic rose,” even though she dumped him. However, he took that as a sign that he should pursue her again. But when he later tried to kiss her, she rejected him — again.

Things did turn around for Evan, in a very strange way, when for some reason he was unresponsive when a producer tried to wake him up as he lay on his bed, and medical help was called.

Carly found Evan in his room, hooked up to machines and receiving aid. It wasn’t exactly clear what had happened to him — maybe it was the wine he’d had earlier — but one thing led to another and the two made out on his bed.

Also at the rose ceremony, Sarah Herron chose Daniel Maguire over the other man in her life, Christian Bishop, and Haley Ferguson handed a rose to Nick after Brandon Andreen didn’t realize she switched places with her twin sister, Emily, on their date last week. Brandon and Christian were sent home.

On the day after the ceremony, Caila Quinn of Ben Higgins’ Bachelor season arrived and asked out Jared Haibon, to the dismay of Emily, who was interested in him. He asked her for her permission to go on the date with Caila. She allowed it, begrudgingly.

Jared had a great time horseback riding on the beach with Caila, so much so that upon their return he informed Emily that he wanted to explore his relationship with Caila. Emily cried to the cameras.

Jared may not be able to focus all of his attention on Caila, due to the return of Ashley Iaconetti, with whom he had a romance last season. She said she’s still in love with him. Good luck, Jared.

Monday night’s episode also featured the first double date in Bachelor in Paradise history: Vinny Ventiera and Isabel “Izzy” Goodkind, and Lace Morris and Grant Kemp.

Bachelor in Paradise continues Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
