Report: “Enchanted” by Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Williams Drawn to “Star Wars: Episode VIII”

LucasfilmOn Saturday, composer John Williams reportedly told a crowd for whom he performed that after seeing a rough cut of Star Wars: Episode VIII, he felt compelled to return to that galaxy far, far away.

Williams, who’s scored all seven chapters in the Star Wars saga, is one of the few people on the planet to have seen the rough cut of movie.

According to MassLive.com, the 84-year-old Oscar winner told the fans at Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts that he was “enchanted” by the performance of Daisy Ridley‘s Rey, and he couldn’t bear to have another composer score her scenes.

Indeed, Williams’ haunting “Rey’s Theme” remains a standout of the Force Awakens soundtrack to many fans, and the piece, and several other selections from that blockbuster, were performed at the venue for the first time Saturday night. Williams also led the Boston Pops Orchestra through other memorable themes including his music from Close Encounters of the Third KindSuperman, and the original Star Wars trilogy.

Written and directed by Rian JohnsonStar Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for a release on December 15, 2017 from Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
