Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is bringing another of his book series to the small screen. He announced on his LiveJournal site that Universal Cable Productions has acquired the rights to his Wild Cards series, which features work by several authors and focuses on a post-World War II world in which an alien virus has infected humans. There are 22 volumes in the series to date.

“Development will begin immediately on what we hope will be the first of several interlocking series,” Martin wrote, adding that he hopes the series will air somewhere in the next year or two.
