Gregg DeGuire/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Cheryl Boone Isaacs has been re-elected as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the Oscar-granting organization’s board of governors.

Isaacs, the first African-American to hold the office and the third woman to do so, will begin her fourth term as president, and her 24th as a governor, representing the public relations branch of the Academy.

Issacs’ appointment comes after the Academy’s recent diversity initiative, which invited 683 new members to its prestigious community.

The new additions come in the wake of the recent #OscarsSoWhite controversy, sparked by the all-white roster of nominees in the top four acting categories at this years Academy Awards for the second year in a row.

With the new class additions, the Academy members are now 27% female and 11% people of color.  Prior to the latest additions, that ratio was 25% female and just 8% people of color.
