(LOS ANGELES) — Channing Tatum is looking to make a Splash.
The actor and producer will star in a remake of the beloved 1984 mermaid comedy that starred Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah and John Candy, Deadline reports.
In the original, Hanks played a man who was saved from drowning by a mermaid — Hannah’s character — when he was young, and later reunites and falls in love with her. The remake, however, will cast Tatum as the mermaid — merman, to be precise — and his 22 Jump Street co-star, Jillian Bell, as the girl he saves.
Ron Howard, who directed the original, will produce the remake, which will be released by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
