(NEW YORK) — One glance will confirm Will Smith is still in terrific shape. But just because he plays a superhero in Suicide Squad — albeit a bad guy superhero — doesn’t mean he’s immune to injury.
During a cast press conference in New York over the weekend, Smith revealed he suffered a fairly serious injury while shooting the movie.
Co-star Margot Robbie had suggested the cast suffered mild injuries, to which Smith chimed in, “When you’re 47, no injury is a mild injury anymore.”
He then described what happened to him: “I tore my calf a couple of weeks in.”
He was in the middle of a scene and heard a popping noise, and the doctor made him take six weeks off to recover. It occurred to Smith that six weeks could cost the production a lot of money. “I wasn’t going to pay for it,” he said.
Fortunately, Smith’s apparently made a full recovery.
Suicide Squad opens Friday.
