Charlamagne Tha God Says He Wants to Be the Ryan Seacrest of His Generation

MTV(NEW YORK) — Charlamagne Tha God is creating tons of headlines and not only because he seems to be right in the middle of the rap beef between Drake and Meek Mill. He’s also the host of Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne, a new comedy talk show that dissects the latest in pop culture.

Charlamagne tells ABC Radio that this is just one step in his grand plan to take over the entertainment industry.

“I think a late night show on a major network is inevitable,” he says, before detailing that he’s also working on a book and several movie projects with Douglas Banker.

“I look at the Ryan Seacrests of the world, the Steve Harveys of the world and I say to myself, ‘That’s the blueprint,'” he continues. “And I have to be the next wave of that. Everything comes in cycles just like the NBA. One generation has its players, the next generation has its players and I feel like I’m gonna be that player for my generation.”

For now, he’s focused on Uncommon Sense, but it’s not his first foray into TV. Back in 2013, he hosted MTV2’s Charlamagne and Friends, which was essentially a flop and Charlamagne knows why.

“It wasn’t necessarily me, like, they had me in a suit and tie; and I was doing like the host-y thing; and like my P.O.V. wasn’t really in the show. And it’s like, what’s the point of having Charlamagne do a show, if Charlamagne can’t be Charlamagne? So this show is me being me,” he explains.

Uncommon Sense is a half-hour comedy talk show centered on pop culture.

“This is my politically incorrect views and potentially dangerous rhetoric. I like to call it intellectual ignorance [at] the highest level,” Charlamagne adds. “It’s just real people talking about real things. It’s just like if you were in the barber shop, and you were listening to people talk, or in the beauty salon, listening to people talk, you know just watching the conversations that happen on social media, that’s what this show represents.”

MTV2’s Uncommon Sense airs at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
