“Transparent” Creator: Our Culture Has Caught Up to 'Trans 101'

Gregory Zabilski(LOS ANGELES) — The cast and crew behind the groundbreaking Amazon show Transparent took part Monday in the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, discussing season two and how everything has changed for them.

A year ago, they’d taken the stage at the press tour, and it seemed almost no one was talking about transgender issues. Now, Transparent creator Jill Solloway has whiplash: “It’s kind of mind-blowing about how our culture has sort of caught up to Trans 101.”

And her show has caught up, too. She chatted about the major change for season two, saying a trans writer was hired.

Solloway says there aren’t enough trans people telling their own stories.

As for Caitlyn Jenner, star Jeffrey Tambor, who plays a late-in-life transgender woman in Transparent, fielded that one, commenting, “We have met Caitlyn on a personal level and we love Cait.”

Transparent season two is out in December.
