Valerie Harper Insists, 'I Am Not, Nor Have I Been, in a Coma'

ABC(LOS ANGELES) — Valerie Harper, who was hospitalized Wednesday after being found unconscious backstage during a performance at a Maine theater, is denying reports that she fell into a coma.

“My dear friends and fans! As always, thank you for your amazing support,” the Rhoda star wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday. “I am happy to report I am not, nor have I been, in a coma.”

Harper brushed the event off, noting, “As anyone who has taken strong medication knows, it doesn’t always agree with you, even with me as this experience proves. I am confronting these hurdles with my usual enthusiasm and love of life.”

The 75-year-old actress even managed to find humor in the situation, joking, “But I must confess that the highlight of this ordeal came when I was escorted by two handsome young men and a pilot, in a medivac helicopter, as the full moon lit the sky. Talk about movie magic!!!”

Harper, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2013, was starring in the musical Nice Work If You Can Get It at the Ogunquit Playhouse. The theater said Brenda Vaccaro will take over for the remainder of the play in a statement released Saturday.
